History

Podu Dâmboviţei village with a population of about 750 inhabitants, lies at an altitude of 730 meters and is located on Rucăr-Bran lane, on the DN73 national road (km 80), at 5 km from the Rucăr village and 29 km from Campulung city. The settlement, although recorded documentary XVI-XVII centuries, has a much older existence, being situated on the old Roman road (LIMES Transalutanus) later became an important trade route linking Transylvania and south territories of the Carpathians. According to tradition, the place where is located Pension PADINA CRAIULUI, known as POSADA PADINA point, is located along the old Roman road!
Podu Dâmboviţei is a typical settlement from Arges county, located in a depression surrounded by mountains and represents a real “gateway” to the Iezer – Păpușa Mountains through Dâmboviţa Valley, to the Piatra Craiului through Dâmbovicioara Valley and to the Bucegi and Leaota Mountains through Cheia Valley. The village name is linked to the existence of an ancient wooden bridge over Dâmboviţa river which link road between traders from Campulung and Brasov cities. As village of shepherds, Podu Dâmboviţei kept traditions unaltered for thousands of years, with celebrations that will delight your soul and with traditional dishes that will delight your taste. The Podu Dâmboviţei settlement offers a wide range of attractions such as Cave Dâmbovicioara Cave, Gorges Dâmbovicioara Gorges, Dâmboviţa Gorges, Brusturet Gorges. Also it can organize tours to the medieval Bran Castle (the Castle of Cont Dracula), the Namaiesti Monastery, the Şirnea village. Thanks to bio-climate, its waters and hiking opportunities through karst gorges and caves, this area is indicated for people suffering from debilitating conditions or neurasthenia.
